The Singapore Women’s team won 1 game and lost 2 in the the first two day of the 7s competition at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
In their opening match on Sunday, the valiant ladies lost to Japan 17-12 after taking the early lead through Derelyn Chua. Japan came back strongly with 3 tries before Wang Shao Ing scored a try in the last minute of the game. Eunice Tay was successful with one of the two conversions
Yesterday, Singapore lost to eventual group champion, Kazakhstan 29-0.The team played bravely against a bigger and faster Kazakhstan who earlier romped past India 50-0. Kazakhstan raced to a 22-0 lead before the end of the first half. Singapore played well in the 2nd half but could not convert their possession into points due to the Kazakhs aggresive defending.
In the last group match, Singapore defeated India 22-5, scoring 3 tries in the first half through Samantha Goh, Sophie Ann Gollifer and Wong Yi Lin. Eunice Tay converted once for Singapore to lead 17-0 at the break.
In the second half, Tabitha Fong added another try before India scored a consolation try in the dying minutes of the game.
Singapore plays Thailand at 10:09 am in the Cup Quartefinals today and Singapore Rugby wish the team the best of luck for their final day of competition.
