The Singapore Men’s 15 a side program kicked off last November with regular training sessions during the club season in preparation for the team’s participation in the Asian Rugby Championships Division 2. The tournament was originally scheduled for a May window, but has since shifted to 15th and 19th November in Chinese Taipei against India then Thailand or the home country.
The rescheduling of the tournament has seen the management team, led by head coach Frazer McArdell look to sustain a year long programe with an initial training squad of 45 invited to trial.
As the team heads into the final 8 weeks leading up to the competition, there already have been 3 internal trials, 2 overseas training trips and 2 Friendly games against Durham Univsity and the Sabah State side respectively.
Wins against Sabah and the Cobra Club at a recent tour to KL argur well for the team as it looks to step up and intensify the preparations in the quest to be promoted up to Division 1. An initial squad of 25 travelled to KL for the short tour, and came away 52- 12 winners over the hosts. It was off the back of another win over Sabah who were Malaysian state winners in 2016.
Another training tour is being planed in October and several other games planned as the final squad is narrowed down to 25 leading up to the tournament.
