- 5-year collaboration from 2019
- Environmentally friendly products
(Singapore, 27 May 2019) Singapore Rugby Union (SRU) appoints Tsunami Sport Ltd on a 5-year contract for both on-field and off-field
apparel needs. Tsunami Sports began collaborating with SRU in 2005, and this amicable relationship has benefitted both local clubs and
the national team.
Both strategic and eco-friendly, the partnership is timely as the teams prepare for the SEA Games in December. Aside from the SEA games,
the teams will be geared up by Tsunami for the Asian Rugby Championship, the Domestic Club 7s, and the Asian 7s Trophy and Series.
SRU will also be one of the first NSAs in Singapore in reducing its carbon footprint.
Tsunami Sports CEO Andrew Chambers said: “We are so excited to renew our association with Singapore rugby. We have always had
a connection to the SRU and the clubs within Singapore. We are delighted to continue our already close relationship with the Singapore
rugby community. We are focused on our goal to bring world-class functional fabrics to the club and school market. Achieving this with
our environmental and sustainability goals implemented by the national team is such a big positive.”
Tsunami Sport has been pioneers in adopting repurposing plastic into fabrics since 2005. With each Singapore national player having 16
plastic bottles repurposed into their on-field apparel, this is continued into off-field supports and training product.
Gareth Rae, Global Head of sales, Tsunami Sport said. “We believe that such positive technology should be available to all teams, clubs at all levels. Both the SRU and company goals were so positively aligned with regards to design, quality of product and sustainability. That this is a relationship that has such exciting potential to make a positive statement with regards to the sustainability in team wear.”
Chambers continued: “Tsunami Sports aim is to continue to lead the team wear market into a more environmental and sustainability-driven market. Such a relationship with a well-established forward thinking regional union fits within our strategic plan. To make all Tier level rugby accessible to such positive technology that benefits our environment can only be a good thing.”
The General Manager of the SRU, Daniel Marc Chow reiterated that it was a big incentive for the players who are all non-professionals to be “kitted out by a brand with great quality and design like Tsunami.” Mr. Chow continued, “SRU now has a long-term partner with a proven track record in Singapore. It is used by the clubs and schools, and it a brand known for its quality, reliability and delivery. SRU is glad to partner a brand that is doing their part for environmental sustainability, and are happy to be contributing to these efforts. We also have plans to have an online store so the community can be decked out in Singapore gear to show their support as well.”
Founded in 2003, Tsunami Sports Ltd has dedicated itself to producing environmentally and sustainability-driven product. With an emphasis on design and complemented by service.
